Strong outrage and heated reactions have trailed the arrest and prosecution of Agatu youth leader, Silas Oloche, by the Department of State Services (DSS).
According to reports, Silas Oloche was arraigned at a Federal High Court in Abuja, with many residents in the Benue community accusing the secret police of targeting victims of herdsmen attacks rather than the perpetrators.
The development has sparked widespread debate across Benue State, with residents questioning why security agencies appear quick to prosecute locals accused of preparing for self-defence, while several perpetrators of attacks on rural communities remain at large.
Oloche, who is facing charges bordering on unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, was allegedly accused by the DSS of coordinating efforts to acquire weapons following repeated attacks on Agatu communities.
The case has generated significant public sympathy for the youth leader, with many calling for his immediate release and urging security agencies to focus on addressing the root causes of insecurity, particularly herdsmen attacks in the area.
The matter continues to generate discussions on social media and within the Idoma community, as residents demand fairness and justice in the handling of security-related cases in Benue State.
