The Benue State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly reacted to recent criticisms by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the administration of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, describing the opposition’s comments as lacking moral standing and historical credibility.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Benedict Yawe, the APC asserted that the PDP should instead be grateful to Governor Alia for correcting years of misrule and infrastructural decay allegedly left behind by previous administrations.
The APC accused the PDP of attempting to distort facts and rewrite history, noting that the party presided over prolonged infrastructural neglect, abandoned projects, institutional weakness, and economic mismanagement during its time in power. The statement highlighted that the current administration inherited a state burdened with deteriorated infrastructure and weakened public institutions.
Defending the Alia administration’s ongoing projects, the APC explained that road constructions in Makurdi are part of a structured urban renewal programme aimed at modernising the state capital, improving mobility, and boosting economic activity. The party noted that temporary inconveniences from construction works are normal and should not be misrepresented as failures.
In the education sector, the APC said the government is tackling inherited challenges through reforms focused on academic stability, facility upgrades, and student welfare interventions, including bursary schemes anchored on transparency and sustainability.
The party maintained that governance should be measured by verifiable outcomes rather than politically motivated criticisms. It reaffirmed its full support for Governor Alia’s commitment to completing ongoing projects, expanding infrastructure, strengthening institutions, and improving the welfare of Benue people beyond 2027.
The latest exchange underscores the continued political rivalry between the APC and PDP in Benue State, with both parties trading accusations over governance performance and development records.
