Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Benue State, Mike Aondoakaa, SAN, has promised to address what he described as the neglect of Benue South if elected governor in 2027.
Aondoakaa spoke on Saturday at St. Andrew’s Primary School Field, Otukpo, during the flag-off of the re-election campaign of the senator representing Benue South, Abba Moro. The former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice accused the current administration in the state of failing to give adequate attention to the development needs of Benue South despite increased allocations from the Federation Account.
Joined at the rally by his running mate, Oyije Ochaekiti Ogbenjuwa, Aondoakaa assured residents that the zone would receive greater attention under a PDP administration. He also commended Moro for his service to the senatorial district and urged the electorate to support PDP candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking earlier, Moro criticised Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration over its handling of development in Benue South. The Senate Minority Leader claimed that the state government receives more than N35 billion monthly but has failed to translate the increased revenue into meaningful projects for the zone. He accused the Alia administration of sidelining Benue South in the distribution of development projects and argued that the government did not deserve another term in office.
Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, who also addressed the rally, urged supporters in the zone to work for Moro, Aondoakaa and other PDP candidates. Ortom expressed confidence that the PDP would return to power in the state in 2027 and said an Aondoakaa-led administration would address challenges confronting residents.
The rally also witnessed the defection of an All Progressives Congress chieftain, John Ochoga, to the PDP. Organisers claimed that some APC members and supporters of other political parties in Benue South had adopted Moro as their preferred senatorial candidate for the 2027 election.
Benue State PDP Chairman, Ezekiel Adaji, presented party flags to Moro and the party’s House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates from the senatorial district. Also present were the PDP senatorial candidate for Benue North-West, Eunice Ortom, and the party’s candidate for Benue North-East, Thomas Tyolumun Unongo.
