Benue Assembly Approves Proposed State Police Bill

The Benue State House of Assembly has approved the proposed constitutional amendment seeking to establish State Police Services across Nigeria.

The bill was passed during plenary on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, in Makurdi, with lawmakers highlighting the need to strengthen grassroots security, improve intelligence gathering, and respond more quickly to threats such as kidnapping, banditry, and communal violence. The proposal is expected to bring policing closer to local communities and improve the protection of lives and property.
