A woman identified as Madam Joe has come under heavy criticism in Makurdi, Benue State, after she was accused of mercilessly beating her nanny.
The incident, which occurred at her residence close to New Anointing Church in Wurukum, Makurdi, was reported to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Benue State Office.
According to sources, officials of the Commission responded swiftly to the report yesterday, rescuing the young girl and moving her to an emergency shelter for victims. The victim’s father later came to take her back home. The accused woman, however, was reportedly not at home at the time of the visit as she had gone to the bush market.
As investigations continue, concerns have been raised over the delay in arresting the woman, with many questioning why no arrest has been made more than 24 hours after the case was reported.
Space Media activist Zege’Orkwande Sughnen Yaaya, who shared the update, announced plans to file an independent petition against the woman tomorrow to ensure her arrest and necessary legal action.
The case has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for justice and stronger protection for vulnerable domestic workers in the state.
