Nigerian adventurer Emmanuel Emmiwuks, known online as Real-Emmiwuks, has reached a pivotal moment on day 125 of his audacious bicycle journey from Nigeria to the United States. In a post shared 20 minutes ago from the road, the determined traveler revealed he is approaching the border between Senegal and Gambia, still far from a definitive crossing point, and contemplating whether to camp under a nearby bridge for the night.
“It may seem as though we’re going to camp here tonight, under the bridge, because the border between Senegal and Gambia is still very far,” he wrote, posing a direct question to his growing audience: “Should we camp here or move a bit?”
Emmiwuks’ expedition, tagged #NIG2USA and #Emmiwuks, has captivated thousands across social media, with his GoFundMe campaign (gofund.me/470e957d) earning a perfect 100% recommendation rating from 342 reviewers. The fundraiser supports logistics, safety, and documentation of what he calls a mission of resilience, cultural exchange, and personal challenge.
His latest update includes striking images: a selfie on a sunlit bridge with calm waters below, a forward view of an open road flanked by greenery, and shots of him cycling across expansive overpasses at golden hour, the Nigerian and American flags proudly displayed on his gear.
Having already traversed multiple West African nations by bicycle, Emmiwuks continues to embody grit and curiosity. The journey, which began over four months ago, is far from over, with thousands of kilometers still ahead before any transatlantic leg can even be considered.
For now, the immediate decision rests under a darkening sky: rest beneath the bridge or push forward into the unknown. Whatever he chooses, one thing is clear, Emmiwuks is writing a new chapter in African exploration, one pedal at a time.
