EFCC Welcomes Effa Okim as New Makurdi Zonal Director Amid Pledge for Integrity

In a significant leadership transition at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE I Effa Okim, officially took charge as the Acting Zonal Director of the Makurdi Zonal Directorate on Thursday, October 30, 2025. The seasoned fraud examiner steps into the role previously held by Commander CE Anselem Ozioko, who has been redeployed to the Ilorin Zonal Directorate.

Okim, a Certified Fraud Examiner and veteran anti-corruption investigator, brings an impressive track record to his new position. Over the years, he has spearheaded numerous high-profile investigations and occupied pivotal roles within the commission, including Team Lead for the Advance Fee Fraud Section; Team Lead for Operational Studies at the EFCC Academy in Karu; Head of Improved Service Delivery (SERVICOM); and Head of Asset Forfeiture and Recovery Management.

A dedicated professional, Okim is a member of several esteemed bodies, such as the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers and the Compliance Institute of Nigeria. He also holds active fellowship in various international associations, underscoring his global perspective on combating financial crimes.

Prior to his appointment in Makurdi, Okim served as the Acting Zonal Director of the Benin Zonal Directorate, where he demonstrated strong leadership in ongoing anti-graft efforts.

In his inaugural address to staff, Okim emphasized the need for unwavering discipline and commitment to the EFCC’s core principles. “We must make sacrifices and shun corruption in all our official dealings by upholding the core values of the Commission,” he declared, setting a tone of integrity and resolve for his tenure.

This change comes as the EFCC continues its mission to tackle economic crimes across Nigeria, with Okim’s expertise poised to strengthen operations in the Makurdi zone.
