A growing wave of disappointment is being expressed by residents of Makurdi over the state of road infrastructure projects in the Benue State capital, with critics drawing a sharp distinction between genuine road construction and what they describe as mere road disturbance.
In a detailed post shared on the Benue Politics platform, concerns were raised that many previously manageable roads have been opened, scraped, broken, or abandoned, leaving communities to contend with dust in the dry season and mud during the rains. The statement highlighted that some areas now suffer more since construction activities began without visible completion.
The post challenged Governor Hyacinth Alia’s media team, particularly Special Assistant Ahorah Terungwa and Chief Press Secretary Tersoo Kula, to move beyond announcements and provide verifiable evidence of completed projects. It demanded a comprehensive road accountability list for Makurdi, including:
– Roads fully completed
– Roads opened but not completed
– Abandoned or delayed projects
– Names of contractors
– Contract sums
– Percentage of completion
– Reasons for delays
– Clear before-and-after pictures and videos
The writer emphasised that true development does not require excessive noise, as quality roads, functional drainage, and durable asphalt would speak for themselves through community experience and verifiable records.
The statement concluded that governance must be backed by proof rather than slogans, urging transparency and warning against turning Makurdi into a site of endless construction without tangible results.
This latest criticism reflects ongoing public scrutiny of infrastructure delivery in Benue State, particularly in the capital city.
