Prominent Benue voice Zege’Orkwande Sughnen Yaaya has issued a passionate call to action to the youths of Benue State, challenging them to rise above manipulation, confront pressing issues, and contribute to solving the state’s problems.
In a strongly worded statement, Yaaya urged young people to “wake-up, man-up” like previous generations instead of acting like cowards and allowing politicians to divide and manipulate them. He questioned whether figures like the late Usman Danfio would have survived in the current generation’s Benue.
Reflecting on past initiatives, he recalled how he and others formed the “Benue Youth Hunters Association” to counter Fulani herdsmen attacks when insecurity escalated. The group aimed to monitor and report threats on Benue soil. He noted that similar efforts were later affected by federal approvals for other security structures.
Today, Yaaya said he has shifted focus to combating human trafficking and related activities within Benue State. He mentioned working with others to intercept victims, rescue young women deceived into prostitution abroad, and collaborate with government authorities in arresting traffickers.
He encouraged the youth to identify specific challenges — such as rising rental costs in a state lacking industries, electoral manipulation, insecurity, lack of social amenities, and embezzlement of public funds — and form registered groups to address them proactively.
“It’s time to wake up and fix Benue in our little ways,” Yaaya stated, calling on his generation to work towards a better tomorrow.
The message has sparked discussions among Benue residents about youth involvement in tackling the state’s security, social, and economic challenges.
