Three Suspects Arrested for Alleged Attempted Sexual Assault and Theft in Tiv Communities, Taraba State

Three suspects, including two Fulani men and one Chamba/Jukun man, have been arrested in connection with separate criminal incidents in Tiv communities in Taraba State.

The arrests followed events that unfolded on Monday, June 9, 2026. In the first incident at Akanyi, a Tiv settlement in Kofai Amadu, the suspects allegedly attempted to sexually assault a young woman. According to reports, the victim and her mother bravely resisted the attack. During the struggle, the mother sustained severe injuries, including the loss of two fingers after being attacked with a sharp object. The two women continued to resist, forcing the assailants to flee the scene.

Later the same day, the suspects were apprehended in Tyogba, a deserted Tiv community under Tor-Tse, while allegedly stealing burglary-proof door protectors and other valuables. Members of the Fulani/Tiv Peace Committee mobilized quickly after the earlier incident, launching a search that led them to the location. The team noticed two motorcycles parked in the area, surrounded the suspects, and caught them in possession of stolen items.

The three men were immediately handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution. Community members have praised the swift response of the Fulani/Tiv Peace Committee for preventing the suspects from escaping.

As investigations continue, the police are yet to issue an official statement on the cases. The incidents have heightened concerns over security in the affected Tiv communities.
