Ushongo Local Government Area has spoken loud and clear in a landmark gathering at Kartyo-Lobi, declaring unwavering support for the continuation of Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia’s administration in 2027.
Yesterday’s thanksgiving and reception in honour of Rev. Fr. Prof. Gabriel Ngbae, Member representing Benue, Nassarawa and Plateau at the Federal Civil Service Commission, saw the people of Ushongo reaffirm their position both in words and deeds. Sir Tersoo Kula, mnipr, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor and a native of Ushongo, described the event as a resounding testimony that the people are not ready to return to Egypt but are ready to reinforce the reforms already bringing change to the state.
Governor Alia, in his address, charged the people to engage in peaceful, issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections, warning against unnecessary taunting and vilifications. He stated emphatically that “I am deliberate about this and I shall continue,” signalling his firm resolve to remain in office for a second term.
The Governor further revealed that Ushongo had in 2023 delivered over 31,000 votes to him against his closest rival’s little over 8,000 votes. “We did it in 2023, and we shall do it again in 2027, God willing,” he declared. He also stressed that his reformation project is based on the principle that “every Benue person should be invited to the table” and that “One MUST not be from a wealthy, influential and powerful family to get a chance to contribute to the development of the state.”
In his welcome remarks, Sir Tersoo Kula added that Ushongo is “not oblivious of the fact that underdevelopment of the state as seen in infrastructure decay, absence of social amenities in our localities, insecurity, unemployment etc cannot be attended to in only four budgets, not even 8 budgets of a state.” He described the gathering as proof that the people of Ushongo are politically sagacious and prescient, having disappointed all lame pundits and short-sighted analysts.
With the 2027 elections fast approaching, Ushongo’s resounding message of consolidation and support for Governor Hyacinth Alia’s second term is being hailed as a significant boost to his campaign in the state. The people have spoken, and the message is loud and clear.
