Benue Community to Unveil Monument for 2025 Fulani Attack Victims in Yelewata

A solemn memorial event is set to take place in Benue State as residents of Yelewata Community prepare to unveil and commission a monument in honour of over 200 people massacred during an armed Fulani attack on 13–14 June 2025.

The Yelewata Monument, facilitated by Yelewata native Franc Fagah Utoo, Esq., and sponsored by Equipping the Persecuted, will be unveiled on Saturday, 13 June 2026. The ceremony will serve as a one-year remembrance of the victims and a show of solidarity with survivors, while calling for justice and lasting peace in the region.

The event will commence shortly after a brief Holy Mass to be celebrated by Bishop Wilfred Anagbe Chikpa, who will also serve as the Chief Host. It is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. prompt at Yelewata, Mbainigi, Mbanoughuul, Nyiev District, Guma Local Government Area, Benue State.

In a public notification signed by Andy Nomsoor, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee (CPC), the general public is invited to attend the unveiling and commissioning. The organisers described the occasion as one held in remembrance of the departed, solidarity with survivors, and hope for justice and a peaceful future.

The 2025 attack on Yelewata remains one of the tragic incidents in the recurring farmer-herder violence that has plagued parts of Benue State. The monument is expected to stand as a permanent tribute to the victims and a call for an end to such violence.
