The Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) Cares Foundation on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, flagged off a measurement camp for the distribution of over 300 free artificial limbs to registered Benue indigent amputees.
The exercise, conducted in collaboration with the Benue State Bureau for International Cooperation and Development and the Ishk Tolaram Foundation, aims to restore mobility and dignity to persons who have lost limbs due to various causes.
During the flag-off, the Ishk Tolaram Foundation pledged to increase the number of beneficiaries from 300 to 350, while calling for more eligible persons to come forward and register for the programme.
The BSUTH Cares Foundation was established specifically to bridge existing gaps in healthcare support, as the teaching hospital itself is not structured as a charity organisation. The initiative is expected to significantly improve the quality of life for many amputees across the state who would otherwise be unable to afford prosthetic limbs.
This humanitarian gesture has been welcomed by residents, with many expressing gratitude to the collaborating partners for their intervention in addressing the challenges faced by people living with disabilities in Benue State.
The measurement and fitting process has commenced, and beneficiaries are expected to receive their artificial limbs in due course as the programme progresses.
