Benue Government Shuts Down Quack Health Centres in Three LGAs

The Benue State Ministry of Health has launched a crackdown on illegal and substandard health facilities, sealing several centres in Buruku, Ushongo, and Kwande LGAs. The enforcement action, led by Permanent Secretary Dr. Beatrice AondoNgwemo Tsavmbu, targeted centres operating without licenses, in filthy conditions, or endangering lives.

In Kwande, the notorious Luter Clinic and Maternity was sealed following community petitions accusing it of “harvesting lives like wildfire.” In Akumator Tsaha, officials confirmed reports of a woman who died during childbirth, along with one of her twins. Dr. Beatrice warned that the ministry will not relent until quackery is eradicated, stating, “Patronizing these centres is nothing short of a suicide mission.”

The clampdown aligns with Governor Hyacinth Alia’s ongoing reforms to upgrade and equip public health facilities across Benue. This decisive action underscores the state’s commitment to ensuring safe and quality healthcare for its residents, addressing long-standing concerns about unregulated medical practices.
