The Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has released 2.3 billion naira to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, to clear outstanding arrears and implement reviewed allowances approved by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, effective July 2024.
The funds will cover reviewed allowances for members of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), nurses and other health workers, alongside annual step increments and the 2026 staff promotion exercise. The released funds will also provide for reviewed uniform allowances, CONMESS relativity for MDCAN and ARD members, as well as specialist allowances for resident doctors, thereby addressing outstanding financial obligations owed to various categories of healthcare workers at the hospital.
The development is expected to strengthen staff welfare and provide greater financial stability for healthcare professionals working at BSUTH, while ensuring that approved remuneration adjustments are fully implemented across the institution. With the implementation of the reviewed allowances, BSUTH staff will now receive remuneration aligned with corresponding entitlements in federal government teaching hospitals and other federal health institutions.
The funding intervention is also expected to boost staff morale and support a more conducive working environment, with improved welfare serving as an important component of efforts to sustain effective healthcare service delivery at the teaching hospital.
The management of BSUTH, under the leadership of the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, appreciated Governor Alia for his continued support and commitment to staff welfare, institutional development and the delivery of quality healthcare services to the people of Benue State.
