A Facebook user, Jirgba Terver, has expressed strong disappointment over the manner in which unclaimed corpses were evacuated from the mortuary of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH).
In a post shared on Saturday, Terver stated that the evacuation should have been carried out without releasing pictures to the public and that the deceased should have been properly wrapped. He noted that staff involved in the exercise were exposed and ought to have been provided with proper protective clothing, including long-hand gloves and masks that cover the face and head.
Terver also questioned the use of a Benue State sanitation truck ordinarily meant for waste disposal for the evacuation of corpses, arguing that the teaching hospital should be able to make provision for appropriate trucks for such an exercise. He described the process as lacking discretion and said the entire operation should have been handled more carefully.
The comments follow the public sharing of images and video of the evacuation of unclaimed bodies from the hospital mortuary earlier in the day.
