Hon. Philip Agbese, representing the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, has explained his support for the Constitution Alteration Bill aimed at establishing State Police in Nigeria.
In a statement following the plenary session of the House of Representatives, Agbese said his vote reflected the overwhelming feedback from constituents and a thorough assessment of the deteriorating security situation in Enone, Benue State, and across the country. He noted that persistent incidents of banditry, kidnapping, and violent crimes continue to threaten lives, displace families, and hinder socio-economic development.
While acknowledging that the Armed Forces and Nigeria Police Force are overstretched, Agbese emphasised the need for additional layers of security to strengthen local response, improve intelligence, and deepen federalism. He assured constituents that genuine concerns regarding potential politicisation, funding, training standards, and safeguards against abuse have been noted and will be addressed during the implementation phase and any further amendments.
The lawmaker described the vote as a commitment to responsive and people-centred representation, assuring the people of Enone that their voices were heard. He pledged continued efforts to prioritise security, peace, and prosperity in the constituency.
