Elderly Woman Arrested in Naka for Alleged Trafficking of Two Girls to Ghana

An elderly woman in Naka has been arrested for allegedly trafficking two young girls to Ghana, where they were reportedly forced into prostitution.

According to activist Zege’Orkwande Sughnen Yaaya, the suspect’s daughter, who resides in Ghana, lured the girls with promises of employment and better living conditions. The woman allegedly facilitated their journey by providing transportation and food before handing them over upon arrival.

The victims were eventually rescued and returned to Nigeria. Yaaya said he reported the matter to the Gender Unit of the Benue State Police Command in Makurdi, leading to the arrest of the suspect in Naka. She is currently being prepared for transfer to Makurdi for further investigation.

The activist described the case as part of his ongoing efforts against human trafficking and vowed to intensify operations in Gboko, Konshisha, and Ugbema areas.

Human trafficking remains a serious challenge in parts of Benue State, with many vulnerable young girls being lured abroad under false pretences. Security agencies are expected to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure justice for the victims.
