Hon. Matthew Ochigbo, the National Democratic Party (NDP) governorship candidate in Benue State, has commended the organisers of the maiden edition of Idoma Day Abuja 2026, describing the event as a historic celebration of the Idoma people’s culture, unity, and identity.
Speaking on Saturday at the Old Parade Ground, Garki, Abuja, Ochigbo praised the organising committee for successfully bringing together Idoma sons and daughters from across Nigeria and the diaspora under one platform. He noted that the celebration was a bold initiative that deserves the support of every well-meaning Idoma person.
The NDP candidate pledged his commitment to helping sustain and expand the annual event, emphasising its importance in showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Idoma people, strengthening their unity, and inspiring younger generations to take pride in their identity. He highlighted that Abuja has become a second home to many Idoma people, who continue to make significant contributions to the growth and development of the Federal Capital Territory while remaining connected to their roots.
Ochigbo called on Idoma people, irrespective of political, religious, or social differences, to continue supporting initiatives that promote peace, cultural preservation, and the collective progress of the Idoma nation. He reaffirmed his readiness to partner with the organisers to ensure that Idoma Day Abuja grows into one of the foremost cultural events in Nigeria, attracting greater participation and recognition in the years ahead.
