A woman identified as Shanyi Iveren has publicly accused her uncle, Anthony Apenda, and his son, Terver Jeremiah Apenda, of coming to her late father’s compound to assault her mother. In a live video shared on social media, she stated that the men arrived at the house and beat her mother, who is the widow of Apenda’s late elder brother.
Iveren claimed that since her father’s death, the family had faced repeated frustration from the uncle’s side. She alleged that Apenda had refused to bury her father at the time earlier agreed by the family and instead insisted on a November date, after which problems continued. In the video, she identified Apenda as a professor at Benue State University and pointed him out along with his son during the confrontation.
She said her mother had been unable to mourn in peace and that she had previously urged calm, only for the uncle and his son to arrive that day. The footage shows a heated argument in the compound involving several people, with physical scuffles occurring as the situation escalated. At one point, Iveren can be heard saying her cousin was beating her while the camera became unsteady amid the disorder.
The video, recorded at the family compound, captures ongoing shouting and attempts by those present to separate the parties. Iveren appealed to the Tiv Nation to intervene and defend their people, questioning whether such treatment of a widow was acceptable.
