Woman Allegedly Beats Brother’s Child to Death Over ₦500 in Jato-Aka

A woman whose name has not been disclosed is alleged to have beaten her brother’s children, leading to the death of a young girl in Jato-Aka on Sunday, 5th October 2026. The incident is said to have occurred around Baaki, near Hope Academy Nursery, Primary and Secondary School.

According to a social media account of the events, the woman accused the children of stealing ₦500. Instead of investigating the claim, she reportedly subjected them to severe corporal punishment. She is said to have tied up the female child, placed her under the hot sun and continued the assault until the girl could no longer survive the pain and died. The male child reportedly survived with a fractured hand.

After discovering that the girl had died, the woman is alleged to have quickly moved the body inside a room, locked the door and attempted to make it appear as if nothing had happened. When confronted, she denied involvement and claimed the rope found at the scene belonged to a loose goat. Neighbours who got wind of the incident insisted on forcing the door open, after which the girl’s body was found on the ground.

The children’s grandmother was reportedly present but did not intervene to stop the assault. She is said to have defended her daughter and asked eyewitnesses whether it was the first time someone would beat a child to death. The Nigeria Police Force in Jato-Aka intervened swiftly and arrested the woman.
