A Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, has scheduled May 29, 2026, for the adoption of final written addresses in the high-profile ₦3.1 billion money laundering case filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against former Benue State Governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam, and his erstwhile Commissioner of Finance, Omadachi Oklobia.
The EFCC accused the duo of diverting proceeds from the sale of Benue State Government’s shares in Dangote Cement Plc through the Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC), sold via Elixir Securities Limited and Elixir Investment Partners Limited.
The case, which has dragged on for several years with multiple delays, has seen several judicial twists, including a previous judge, Justice Ahmed Mohammed, attempting to withdraw from the matter in 2016 before later resuming hearing.
Senator Suswam, who governed Benue State from 2007 to 2015, and his co-defendant were first arraigned in 2015. They were re-arraigned in November 2020 on an amended charge.
The latest development brings the long-running trial closer to conclusion as parties prepare to present their final arguments before the court delivers judgment.
The case continues to attract significant public interest in Benue State.
