A prominent social commentator, Zege’Orkwande Sughnen Yaaya, has threatened to petition the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) against Hon. Samuel Matu, the Member representing Turan/Ikyurav-ya in the Benue State House of Assembly.
In a strongly worded Facebook post, Yaaya demanded that Hon. Matu give a proper account of how he spent constituency project funds and other benefits during his time in office. He described the lawmaker’s empowerment programme which included exercise books in bags and sewing machines as his “first ever” initiative.
The activist warned residents against voting for Hon. Matu in future elections, stating that political offices are not personal enterprises and that the constituency deserves better leadership.
The post, which included photos of Hon. Matu holding his APC Expression of Interest and Nomination Form for the State House of Assembly as well as images of the empowerment materials, comes shortly after the conclusion of APC primaries in the state.
No response has been received from Hon. Matu or his representatives at the time of this report. The development reflects growing public scrutiny of elected officials’ performance and resource management in Benue State as the 2027 election cycle approaches.
