Hon. Dankeji Abubakar Emerges Makurdi LG APC Chairman Through Consensus

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State has elected Hon. Dankeji Abubakar as its new chairman following a peaceful and consensus-driven local government congress held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Makurdi Local Government Secretariat.

Party officials described the exercise as transparent, orderly, and free of disputes, with broad participation from stakeholders across the local government area. The consensus process ensured a smooth outcome and widespread acceptance of the new leadership.

Reacting to the development, the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga, congratulated Hon. Abubakar and the newly constituted local government executive committee. He commended party leaders and stakeholders for delivering what he termed a credible and peaceful process.

The Speaker specifically appreciated the contributions of key political figures, including the political leader of Ichongo-Tiev, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Liambee Jime; Commissioner for Lands, Hon. James Dwem; former Speaker and Makurdi APC Point Man, Amb. Terhemen Tarzoor; and the Executive Chairman of Makurdi Local Government, Hon. Joseph Keffi.

He urged the new executives to prioritise unity, strengthen the party’s grassroots structure, and work tirelessly to consolidate APC’s dominance in Makurdi ahead of future elections.
