In a heartwarming display of compassion amid ongoing humanitarian challenges in Benue State, philanthropist and businessman Hon. Zaki Mzahan Peter has awarded a two-year educational scholarship to a young displaced boy affected by communal violence.
The beneficiary, Liambem Terver, hails from Ityuluv Ward in Ukum Local Government Area. His family was among thousands forced to flee their ancestral community following repeated attacks reportedly carried out by suspected Fulani militias. The violence resulted in tragic loss of lives and destruction of property, compelling Liambem’s parents to seek safety and refuge in Zaki Biam, where they now reside.
While in Zaki Biam, the young boy—supposed to be in school at his age—was instead seen begging on the streets to support his struggling family. The sight deeply moved Hon. Mzahan Peter, a prominent resident and community figure in the area. Upon learning of Liambem’s plight, he immediately took action.
Further inquiries confirmed that Liambem is currently enrolled as a Primary Four pupil at Grace Land Nursery and Primary School in Zaki Biam. Touched by the child’s determination and the harsh circumstances he faces, Hon. Mzahan personally escorted the boy back to school and formally committed to sponsoring his education for the next two academic years, covering Primary Four through to Primary Six.
The gesture has been widely praised by local residents, who described it as both timely and inspiring. Many see the intervention as a powerful example of how individual initiative can restore hope and opportunity to children caught in the devastating cycle of displacement and conflict.
