The National Union of Benue State Students (NUBESS) has paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, in Abuja.
During the meeting, the student body congratulated the SGF on his leadership and presented some of the major challenges Benue students are currently facing across tertiary institutions in Nigeria. According to the NUBESS President, Comrade Favour Wandoo Titus, the issues include the delay in payment of bursaries and scholarships, insecurity affecting Benue students, and the rising cost of tuition and accommodation. She appealed to the SGF to help facilitate government intervention and ensure Benue students benefit from federal programmes.
Responding, Senator George Akume assured the students that their concerns had been noted. He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains committed to improving education, creating opportunities for young people, and supporting students through initiatives like the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). The SGF also encouraged the students to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and focused on their education while serving as good ambassadors of Benue State wherever they find themselves.
As part of the visit, NUBESS presented Senator Akume with an Award of Recognition in appreciation of his contributions to education, Benue State, and Nigeria.
