An American-based non-governmental organisation, Equipping The Persecuted (ETP), on Monday, August 10, 2026, provided financial assistance to victims of the recent armed attack on Abaashwa community in Nozorov, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, to help cover their hospital bills. The assistance was presented to the victims, who are receiving treatment at General Hospital, Gbajimba, headquarters of Guma LGA, by the Benue State Representative of ETP, Comrade Andy Nomsoor.
Speaking during the presentation, Nomsoor said the gesture was part of the organisation’s ongoing efforts to alleviate the suffering of victims of the attacks and provide immediate support to affected families. He stated that the Chief Executive Officer of ETP, Judd Saul, and the organisation’s Media Relations Officer, Barrister Franc Utoo, were deeply saddened by the attack, which reportedly claimed four lives and left several others injured. Nomsoor added that ETP would not relent in its efforts to bring succour to victims of such attacks in Benue State and advocate for lasting solutions to the persistent insecurity affecting communities in the state.
He also conveyed the sympathies of Barr. Franc Utoo to the victims, noting that although he is currently outside the country, he has continued to closely follow developments concerning the killings of Benue people and remains committed to supporting affected communities and doing everything possible within his capacity to assist victims and contribute to efforts aimed at ending the attacks.
The ETP representative called on governments at all levels to move beyond verbal assurances and take decisive action to protect the lives and property of the people of Guma LGA and Benue State at large. He particularly urged the Benue State Government to intensify efforts to secure vulnerable communities and create the necessary conditions for displaced persons to safely return to their ancestral homes and resume normal lives.
A community leader, Mr. Kenneth Poor, who accompanied the ETP delegation to the hospital, commended the organisation for its intervention and expressed appreciation to Mr Judd Saul and the entire organisation for their continued support. He said the victims and the entire Abaashwa community were grateful for the assistance and would continue to pray for Utoo and the organisation. During the visit, Nomsoor also presented financial assistance, on behalf of ETP, to two women who lost their husbands in the attack.
