Hon. Rodney Mtagher, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Assembly candidate for Agasha State Constituency, has strongly condemned a deadly attack on Abaashwa Community in Ndzorov, Nongov, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, August 4, 2026, and was allegedly carried out by armed Fulani assailants, claimed the lives of several innocent residents while many others sustained varying degrees of injuries as they slept in their homes.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Hon. Mtagher described the incident as barbaric, inhumane and unacceptable, expressing deep sorrow over the continuous loss of innocent lives in Benue State. He called on the Benue State Government to work closely with security agencies and traditional rulers to bring an end to the persistent attacks on communities across the state.
According to him, the primary responsibility of any government is the protection of lives and property, stressing that a government that fails to safeguard its citizens falls short of its fundamental obligation. He lamented that the latest attack came at a critical period when farmers should be cultivating their fields, questioning how law-abiding citizens could be slaughtered in their ancestral homes without adequate protection.
Hon. Mtagher further urged security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure that justice is served, while calling for improved security measures to prevent further attacks on innocent communities. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones and prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased. He also wished those injured a speedy recovery.
