A recent visit to Government Secondary School (GSS) Obagaji in Agatu Local Government Area has highlighted the institution’s alarming state of neglect, once a symbol of academic excellence now overtaken by overgrown weeds and deteriorating infrastructure.
In an impassioned appeal, O. F. Egahi called on the education-friendly administration of Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia to include GSS Obagaji among schools deserving urgent intervention. He also urged the Honourable Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Dr. Mrs. Margaret Adamu, to give special attention to this historic school.
The writer emphasized that timely rehabilitation would restore hope to students, teachers, parents, and the entire community. He further stressed the important role of the school’s alumni, urging former students to invest in the institution that shaped their lives rather than merely reminiscing about the past.
The appeal described the rehabilitation of GSS Obagaji as a collective responsibility involving the government, alumni, community leaders, corporate organizations, and well-meaning individuals.
“Government Secondary School, Obagaji, is more than a collection of buildings. It is a legacy, a beacon of learning, and a symbol of hope for generations yet unborn,” the statement concluded, stressing that the time to act is now.
