Reports emerging from Benue State indicate that the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election held on May 21, 2026, was marred by tension, widespread irregularities, and significant disruptions across several local government areas.
According to multiple accounts from participants, electoral materials were not made available at many polling units, leading to confusion, frustration, and agitation among party members and aspirants.
In one incident, Dr. Jeffrey Kuraun, who was present in his local government area, reportedly witnessed the absence of voting materials. He was said to have intervened to calm agitated supporters, urging restraint and appealing for peace to prevent escalation.
The controversy has fueled broader allegations of non-transparent conduct of the exercise, with critics arguing that the failure to deploy materials uniformly across all designated polling units undermines the credibility and legitimacy of the process.
Stakeholders within the Benue APC insist that any attempt to announce results from an exercise they claim was not properly conducted would violate party rules and internal democratic procedures. The situation has further deepened internal divisions, generating continued political tension and competing interpretations of events.
