Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue State has inaugurated seven newly appointed commissioners and a member of the Benue State House of Assembly Service Commission, charging them to place public interest above personal considerations in the discharge of their duties. Governor Alia gave the charge on Friday, 21st August 2026, at the Old Banquet Hall of Government House, Makurdi, during the swearing-in ceremony, describing their appointments as a call to service, a solemn trust and an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development and prosperity of the state.
The Governor urged the new commissioners to remain focused despite the challenges they may encounter in the course of their duties, stressing the need for effective collaboration across ministries. He noted that although the commissioners had different portfolios, the challenges confronting the people of Benue were interconnected and therefore required a coordinated approach to solving them. Governor Alia also charged them to conduct themselves in ways that would make their families and society proud, reminding them that their appointment was to serve the people of Benue and not their personal interests or those of particular groups.
He said the people of the state expected integrity, fairness, competence, accountability and diligence from them, urging them to regularly visit their communities, engage professionals and interact with relevant stakeholders to gain a proper understanding of the realities on ground. According to him, such engagements would enable the commissioners to develop practical solutions to the challenges confronting the people, stressing that “the people deserve results and must be given the result.” The Governor further encouraged the new appointees to embrace innovation and adopt new ways of working, noting that the world was changing rapidly and that the government must continuously improve its methods of service delivery.
He assured the commissioners of his administration’s direction and institutional support to enable them succeed, while congratulating them on their elevation and thanking them for accepting to serve the state. Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated commissioners, Mr. Nick Eworo assured the Governor and the people of Benue that they would not betray the confidence reposed in them. Eworo expressed appreciation to Governor Alia for finding them worthy of the appointments and pledged their commitment to serving the state diligently.
Those inaugurated as commissioners were Chief Solomon Iorpev, Mrs. Elizabeth Ogenyi, Monday Agwa Egbe, Kuma Aii Iyenge, Roy Ashirga, Akwa Amo and Nick Eworo. Mr. Godwin Anya was also sworn in as a member of the Benue State House of Assembly Service Commission.
