The Benue State Primary Health Care Board (BNSPHCB), in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health (SMOH) and PATH through the REACH Malaria Project, convened a stakeholders’ meeting on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the BNSPHCB Conference Hall in Makurdi to review the implementation of Integrated Community Case Management (iCCM) across the state.
The meeting brought together representatives from implementing partners to assess findings from recent monitoring activities in Obi, Konshisha, Kwande, and Okpokwu Local Government Areas. Discussions focused on service delivery, commodity availability, reporting performance, and operational challenges.
Mr. Liambee Abanyi, SMEP M&E Officer, presented key findings from supportive supervision and community-level Data Validation Meetings, while Dr. Matthew Ocheifa shared insights on best practices, stressing the need for patience and humane treatment of corps members for optimal results.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Wasem Akor, Malaria Focal Person, reiterated the critical role of stakeholders in strengthening child health services, particularly for malaria, pneumonia, and diarrhoea among children under five in hard-to-reach communities. Participants agreed on actionable recommendations to address gaps and improve the quality and sustainability of the iCCM programme.
The iCCM initiative remains a vital strategy for expanding access to prompt diagnosis and treatment in underserved areas of Benue State.
