SEDI Partners with Akwae Torkula Polytechnic to Boost Science and Technology Education in Benue StateThe Scientific Equipment Development Institute (SEDI), Minna, under the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), has entered into a strategic partnership with Akwae Torkula Polytechnic, Makurdi, aimed at strengthening Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in Benue State.

The partnership was advanced during a return visit by Engr. Dr. Jafaru O. Mahmud, Overseer/Chief Executive of SEDI, to the polytechnic on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. The visit follows an earlier engagement by the institution’s management team to SEDI in Minna in September 2025.

According to the Rector of Akwae Torkula Polytechnic, Dr. Martins Moses Agena, KSJI, the collaboration will involve the provision of scientific equipment, technical materials, and manpower development programmes to enhance practical learning and skills acquisition among students and staff.

Dr. Jafaru Mahmud stated that SEDI is committed to supporting the polytechnic’s growth, noting that the partnership will contribute significantly to manpower development in STEM fields and help position the institution as a key player in technological advancement.

Both parties are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize the collaboration, which is expected to commence practical implementation soon. The initiative aligns with the Benue State Government’s vision to promote science, technology, and skills-based education under Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration.

The partnership is widely viewed as a major boost for technical education and innovation in the state.
