Residents of the Igede-speaking areas in Benue State are expressing renewed hope as construction work continues on the long-awaited Obi-Oju road project.
A recent Facebook post by Igede Pikin, which has been trending locally, shared several photos showing active road construction activities. The images capture workers and heavy machinery engaged in asphalting, levelling, and other rehabilitation efforts on the road, with construction equipment and labourers visibly on site.
The Obi-Oju road, part of the larger Otukpo-Obi-Oju federal road network, serves as a critical link connecting communities in Obi and Oju Local Government Areas. For years, the road had been in a deplorable state, causing hardship for travellers, disrupting trade, and contributing to accidents and insecurity in the region.
The resumption of work has been welcomed by many locals, especially following interventions by stakeholders, including Senator Abba Moro, who facilitated the return of contractors to the site after periods of abandonment. The project is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Benue South Senatorial District and other parts of the state, as well as ease access towards Cross River State.
Photos in the trending post show fresh asphalt being laid, road rollers in operation, and construction barriers in place, indicating steady progress on the rehabilitation.
While the post highlights the ongoing work, many residents continue to call for timely completion of the project to fully restore the road and bring lasting relief to commuters and businesses in the area.
This development comes as part of broader efforts to address infrastructure challenges in Benue State, with hopes that the completed road will boost economic activities and enhance safety for travellers in the Igede region.
