The Federal Government has commenced the implementation of the Renewed Hope Restoration Project (RHRP) in Nagi, Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State, in a strategic effort to provide a sustainable agribusiness solution to the challenges faced by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Benue communities.
The initiative is being implemented under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in collaboration with the Benue State Government through the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI).
Designed as a pilot programme, the project aims to restore livelihoods, strengthen food security, and promote economic empowerment among displaced farming communities. Under the scheme, IDP farmers will be enrolled in batches to participate in an intensive four-month training and empowerment programme focused on sustainable and profitable farming systems.
The project adopts a comprehensive approach that integrates agricultural production with supporting infrastructure and security. Planned facilities include an administrative block, hostels for trainees, warehouses, police outposts, water supply systems, cultivation facilities, and other essential amenities required to support modern agricultural activities. It spans a total land area of 5,000 hectares, with 1,000 hectares currently earmarked for the first phase of cultivation, while also encouraging collaboration with private sector stakeholders and incorporating security sector support to ensure a safe and conducive farming environment.
Significant progress has already been recorded, with land preparation completed and farming activities officially underway. The commencement of cultivation marks a major milestone in the implementation of the project and reflects the commitment of both the Federal and Benue State Governments to restoring livelihoods, enhancing agricultural productivity, and creating sustainable economic opportunities for displaced persons.
The Renewed Hope Restoration Project is expected to serve as a model for community-based agricultural restoration, contributing to food security, rural development, job creation, and long-term economic resilience across Benue State and beyond.
