Residents of Otukpo in Benue State who have built houses on or near railway lines are facing an uncertain future as the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) begins enforcement action against illegal structures along the rail corridor.

A viral post by EbonyNaija MediaBlog has sparked reactions after markings were spotted on buildings in Otukpo, clearly indicating that the affected structures are on railway land. The inscriptions “RAILWAY,” “REMOVE,” and “RPMGL/NRC 21/4/2026” were boldly written in red paint on brick walls, with large ‘X’ marks signifying demolition or removal.
