Cocoa Plantation Thrives in Otukpo, Benue State, Defying Sceptics

A thriving cocoa plantation in Otobi Akpa, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, has become a symbol of agricultural possibility, challenging long-held beliefs that cocoa cannot survive in the state.

In a post shared by A.D Farm, attention was drawn to the success of Dagreenfarms and Agro, which has established a massive cocoa plantation that is reportedly “standing strong” in the area.

The development comes as a direct rebuttal to those who had dismissed the idea of growing cocoa in Benue, with many claiming it was impossible due to climatic conditions. The post highlights that people often declare things impossible simply because they have never attempted them.

“People laughed at the idea of cocoa in Benue… until cocoa started growing in Benue,” the statement noted, adding that those who say “you can’t” today will be the same ones asking “how did you do it?” tomorrow.

The farm owners are encouraging farmers and potential investors to stop listening to negative noise, conduct soil tests, carry out proper research, and take bold steps in agribusiness.

Dagreen Farms is also offering quality cocoa seedlings to interested farmers. The company operates in Ikom, Cross River State, as well as in Otobi Akpa, Otukpo, Benue State.

This successful cocoa plantation is seen as a boost to agricultural diversification in Benue State, demonstrating that with the right approach, several crops previously considered unsuitable for the region can actually thrive.

The development is expected to inspire more farmers in Otukpo and other parts of Benue to explore cocoa cultivation as a viable and profitable venture.
