APC Aspirant Mathias Byuan Declares He Won’t Step Down for Gov. Alia in 2027 Race

APC governorship aspirant Dr. Mathias Byuan has declared that he will not step down for Governor Hyacinth Alia ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Benue State.

Byuan insisted that nobody should be given an automatic ticket, saying both he and the governor should “go to the field” and test their popularity in a fair contest.

He accused the current administration of not delivering enough tangible projects in the state. The aspirant promised that if elected, he would focus on creating jobs, driving industrial growth, and providing more opportunities for young people in Benue.

Byuan’s strong position has intensified the emerging contest within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State as the battle for the 2027 governorship ticket gathers momentum.

The development comes barely two days after groups such as the Nigerian Union of Pensioners and the Benue Motorcycle Association purchased nomination forms for Governor Alia, signaling early moves to support his second-term bid.

Many political observers now expect a keenly contested APC primary, with Byuan’s declaration raising fresh questions about whether the party will allow an open primary or move to endorse the incumbent governor.
