Hon. Saater Tiseer, former Majority Leader of the Benue State House of Assembly and current lawmaker representing Mbagbwa State Constituency, has categorically rejected accusations linking him to a purported plot to petition Governor Hyacinth Alia.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, Tiseer described the claims made by Mr. Asortar James Asortar as “false, baseless, and malicious.” The allegations, which surfaced in Facebook posts dated January 29 and 30, 2026, accused the lawmaker of supplying sensitive House of Assembly documents to certain individuals to aid in drafting a petition against the governor. The posts further claimed that Tiseer met with the Benue State PDP Secretary, Hon. Dan Nyikywagh, to finalize the alleged petition.

Tiseer dismissed the entire narrative as “a complete fabrication,” insisting that he has never released any official documents for such purposes nor participated in any meeting aimed at plotting or perfecting a petition against the sitting governor.

“I state clearly and unequivocally that these allegations are false, baseless and malicious,” he declared.

Highlighting his position as an elected member of the state legislature, Tiseer emphasized that his office carries a high level of trust and responsibility. He argued that he would have no need to rely on proxy petition writers or clandestine meetings to engage any governor if circumstances ever warranted such action.

The lawmaker further described the accusations as an attempt to damage his reputation and mislead the public, noting that the position he currently occupies is one his accuser could only “envy and aspire to.”

Tiseer demanded an immediate retraction of the publications and a public apology from Asortar within seven days, to be issued on the same platform where the allegations were originally posted. He warned that failure to comply would compel him to instruct his lawyers to pursue legal redress, including claims for damages and compensation, over what he termed an “injurious and defamatory” publication.

“I reserve my rights,” Tiseer added in conclusion.

The development has added fresh tension to the political atmosphere in Benue State, where public discourse around loyalty, governance, and intra-party dynamics remains highly charged. As of the time of this report, no response has been received from Mr. Asortar James Asortar or the individuals named in the rebuttal.

This exchange underscores the sensitivity of political allegations in the current dispensation and the readiness of public office holders to defend their integrity through both public statements and, if necessary, legal channels. Further developments will be monitored as the situation unfolds.
