The Director General, Plenipotentiary and Liaison Affairs to the Governor of Benue State, Dr Jimmy Ajim, has resigned from his position, citing personal reasons. In a letter dated 30 July 2026 and addressed to Governor Hyacinth Alia, Ajim expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, describing his time in the Benue State Government as a profound privilege.
His resignation takes effect from 10 August 2026, and he has indicated his willingness to support a smooth handover of responsibilities before his exit. Prior to his appointment in the Alia administration, Ajim served at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in various capacities, including as Chief of Protocol to five successive Ministers of Petroleum, Senior Manager for Protocol and International Liaison, and the Corporation’s Liaison Officer to the National Assembly.
While the resignation has been officially attributed to personal reasons, some observers have linked it to broader political tensions within the All Progressives Congress in Benue State, particularly the reported rivalry between Governor Alia and Senator George Akume. There is also speculation that Ajim may have aligned with the Akume camp. The development adds to recent reports of personnel changes in the state administration.
