Armed Attack on Benue Links Bus Near Otukpo Leaves Three Injured, No Fatalities Reported

A commercial bus belonging to Benue Links Transport Company was attacked by armed men yesterday evening, sparking fresh concerns over the safety of commuters along major routes in Benue State.

The incident occurred around 7:00 pm on January 10, 2026, shortly after the bus, with registration number BUU 429 XB and company number PP 974, passed through Otukpo. According to eyewitness accounts and a widely circulated social media alert, the attackers opened fire on the vehicle, injuring three passengers.

Fortunately, no lives were lost in the attack. The three injured individuals, along with other passengers, were immediately rushed to the Benue State Teaching Hospital, Otukpo Annex, where they are currently receiving treatment.

The post, shared by the verified account “D’n’aked Elder Sughne…” just 13 minutes ago, urged members of the public to check on their loved ones who may have been traveling on the route at the time. It included graphic images of the damaged bus, showing visible bullet holes and bloodstains on the white and red livery of the Benue Links vehicle.

The attack has once again highlighted the persistent security challenges faced by travelers in parts of Benue State, particularly along intercity routes frequently used by commercial transport operators. Armed robberies, ambushes, and shootings targeting buses and other vehicles have become recurring incidents in recent years, often attributed to bandits or criminal elements operating in the region.

As of the time of this report, neither the Benue State Police Command nor the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued an official statement confirming the incident or providing details on the ongoing investigation. Authorities are yet to disclose whether any suspects have been identified or if the attackers escaped with any valuables.
