The Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC) has officially taken over 166 housing units of the National Housing Programme from the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development on behalf of the Benue State Government.
The estate, located along the Welfare Quarters-Mopol Barracks Road in Makurdi, features one, two, and three-bedroom bungalows. It was formally handed over during a ceremony at the Old Banquet Hall of Government House.
Group Managing Director of BIPC, Dr. Raymond Asemakaha, CFA, explained that the acquisition aligns with Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s directive to provide affordable homes for civil servants, masses, and low-income earners. He noted that the project addresses complaints about high costs at the Eco City Estate by creating more accessible housing options.
The houses will be allocated under a 40:40:20 rent-to-own model 40% for civil servants, 40% for the general masses, and 20% for low-income earners with flexible payments spread over several years.
The initiative is designed to reduce high rental costs in Makurdi, bridge housing deficits, and promote inclusivity. It also includes the conversion of a unit into an outpost station for the Nigerian Police Force.
Representatives from the Federal Ministry of Housing, the state government, and other stakeholders commended the project as a positive step towards improving access to quality and affordable housing for Benue residents.
Prospective beneficiaries are expected to obtain allocation documents from BIPC, after which the Federal Mortgage Bank will verify contributions to the National Housing Fund for mortgage financing.
