NSCDC Benue State Command Arrests Two Suspects for Job Racketeering

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Benue State Command has arrested two men for allegedly operating a job racketeering syndicate targeting unsuspecting job seekers in the state.

The suspects, identified as Okpara Michael Abah (42 years) and Ade John Ogbu (37 years), were arrested on 30th April 2026 in Makurdi after intelligence led operatives to disrupt their attempt to conduct a staged data capturing exercise for applicants.

According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC EA Michael, the suspects allegedly collected money from victims under the false pretence of securing jobs for them. Investigations revealed that one of the principal suspects, Okpara Michael Abah, received a total of ₦1,178,500 from some applicants, while an additional ₦116,500 was collected for the procurement of uniforms and other items.

Items recovered from the suspects include copies of application forms, passport photographs of the applicants, and a still camera.

Commandant Bitrus Alice Larai warned members of the public to be cautious and avoid falling victim to such criminal elements. She emphasised that the Federal Ministry of Interior has clear structural procedures for job placements and appointments, urging citizens not to patronise fraudsters.

The NSCDC stated that the suspects will be handed over for diligent prosecution upon the completion of investigations.

This arrest is part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to rid Benue State of fraudulent activities, particularly those exploiting the desperation of unemployed youths seeking legitimate employment opportunities.

The public has been advised to always verify job opportunities through official government channels and to report any suspicious recruitment activities to the nearest security agency.
