The Federal Polytechnic, Wannune, in Benue State has received a significant infrastructural and developmental lifeline following the award of a major water supply project by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation. The announcement came during a supervisory visit to the institution by its Pioneer Rector and current Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, who was warmly received by the current Rector, Dr. Tyover Ashinya Dajoh.

Dr. Dajoh described the polytechnic as a vital hub for human capacity building and infrastructural growth in the region. He expressed deep appreciation to Prof. Utsev and the Federal Ministry for prioritising the institution’s utility needs through the substantial water project. The initiative is designed to provide reliable potable water to the campus, support ongoing construction activities, and significantly enhance overall campus development.

“Water is life. To have it is to have life in abundance,” Dr. Dajoh remarked, emphasising that access to steady water supply would unlock further academic, administrative, and infrastructural expansion at the polytechnic.

The project centres on the expansion of the Wannune Angbo Dam, which was handed over to Jiffs Ltd in September 2025 for comprehensive upgrades. The dam’s capacity will increase from 400 to 1,000 cubic metres, accompanied by the installation of a booster station to ensure efficient water distribution across the campus and neighbouring communities. Beyond campus use, the enhanced water infrastructure will also facilitate irrigation for local agriculture, promote tourism potential, and has already catalysed the approval of a 7-kilometre Zongo-Mchila road construction project to improve access and connectivity.

Dr. Dajoh paid special tribute to Prof. Utsev for his foundational role in establishing and nurturing the polytechnic during its early years. He also acknowledged the pivotal contributions of Senator Dr. George Akume, who is credited with facilitating the establishment of the institution in Wannune, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his consistent support toward tertiary education and rural development across the country.

The visit drew wide participation from staff and students of the polytechnic, political leaders, community heads, and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by Hon. Paul Shiaondo Tarka, underscoring the broad-based enthusiasm and collective ownership of the transformative project.

The water scheme is expected to address long-standing challenges related to water scarcity on campus, improve living and learning conditions, and position the Federal Polytechnic Wannune as a more attractive and sustainable centre of technical and vocational education in Benue State and beyond. With these developments, the institution is poised for accelerated growth in both academic output and community impact.
