The Federal Executive Council (FEC), presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has approved the construction of a new airstrip in Gboko, Benue State, at a cost of N34.5 billion.
The project is aimed at strengthening security operations in Benue State and the North Central region by improving access to communities frequently attacked by bandits and kidnappers.
Briefing State House correspondents after Monday’s FEC meeting, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, said the airstrip would provide critical infrastructure to support security agencies in responding swiftly to emergencies in remote areas.
The approval is expected to enhance rapid deployment of security forces and boost overall safety in a region that has faced persistent challenges with banditry and kidnapping.
