Tension is rising in parts of Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State following reports of a late-night movement of suspected armed herders toward the Mbalom community.
Eyewitnesses and local hunters reported that a large group was sighted moving through several villages late Monday night. According to information shared by a local source identified as Mc Oliver De Busy-brain, hunters who were out around 10:37 p.m. observed the group advancing in large numbers near Ormin village. The movement was said to have continued through several settlements, including Tse Mom, Tse Uchough, and Tse Imunan, with the final direction believed to be heading toward Agena Mbalom.
A resident also confirmed sighting the group crossing the Naka road at Mgbeta, after Adaka, heading in the direction of Ormin village.
While the exact intention of the group remains unclear, the development has heightened anxiety among residents, many of whom are calling for vigilance and immediate security intervention. Locals have been urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from security agencies regarding the reported movement. However, the sighting has triggered serious concern in the affected communities.
