A group of Tiv students at the University of Jos has raised a strong alarm over the deteriorating security situation facing Tiv students and other Benue indigenes in Jos, describing the environment as no longer safe.
The chapter president of the Community of Tiv Students, Zaki Hwagyo Terhemen Shedrach, triggered the urgent call after receiving disturbing reports from students on campus. In a statement issued on behalf of the students, the group appealed directly to the Benue State Government to swiftly mobilize and make necessary arrangements to safely evacuate all affected students from Jos back to Makurdi.
The appeal extends beyond Tiv students to include every Benue indigene currently studying in Jos. The students’ leadership also advised all affected students to remain calm, stay in the safest locations available, and avoid unnecessary exposure while arrangements for their return are being made. “The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority,” the statement stressed.
The formal appeal was signed by HRM Wan U Civirigh and Chief Nyam Terumbur Samuel, National President and Tor-Tiv of the Community of Tiv Students Worldwide. The group emphasized that the current security challenges require immediate government intervention to protect lives and prevent any tragic incidents.
No official response from the Benue State Government or security agencies has been received as of the time of this report, but the students’ leadership expressed hope for swift action to ensure the safe return of all affected learners to their home state.
