A deadly ambush rocked Anyiin in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State on Saturday, November 1, 2025, when gunmen opened fire on the convoy of Prince Shimapever Jiji, the member representing Logo State Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly. The attack claimed the life of Hon. Atindiga Tsebee, a former councillor, and left several others injured in a brazen assault that has sent shockwaves through the region.

The lawmaker was returning from a condolence visit to Tombu Council Ward, where he had gone to sympathize with families grieving the loss of three victims from a recent assault earlier in the week. Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos as the attackers, reportedly in large numbers, began shooting sporadically upon sighting the convoy. “The gunmen began shooting sporadically when they sighted the convoy at Anyiin, killing the former councillor and injuring many others,” a community source recounted.

Hon. Tsebee was killed on the spot, while others in the entourage sustained varying degrees of injury. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, though the timing—coming just days after another deadly incident in the same area—raises fears of escalating violence in Logo, a region already grappling with security challenges.

Clement Kay, Chairman of Logo LGA, confirmed the incident in a statement, condemning it as “barbaric” and urging security agencies to swiftly hunt down the perpetrators. “Our son came home to console families of victims of Thursday’s attack. I was meant to join him, but the governor summoned me for a meeting. Not long after, I got news of the ambush,” Kay revealed, expressing grief over the loss and frustration at the audacity of the attackers.

Efforts to obtain an official comment from the Benue State Police Command proved unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, could not be reached at the time of this report. Her line remained unavailable, leaving questions about the police response and ongoing investigations unanswered for now.

The attack underscores the deteriorating security situation in parts of Benue State, where armed assaults, herder-farmer clashes, and targeted killings have become recurrent nightmares for residents. Lawmakers and local leaders, often seen as symbols of authority, are increasingly becoming targets, further eroding public confidence in safety and governance.

As the community mourns Hon. Tsebee and prays for the recovery of the injured, calls for decisive action grow louder. The people of Logo—and Benue at large—await justice, but with each unanswered ambush, the shadow of fear lengthens. This latest tragedy is not just an attack on individuals; it is an assault on peace, progress, and the very fabric of community trust in a state desperate for respite from violence.
