Governor Hyacinth Alia has strongly condemned the attack on Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State that resulted in the loss of innocent lives, including four police officers. He described the incident as a despicable act against the peace-loving people of Ayilamo and a grave threat to the security and stability of the state.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, the governor said the reported killing of the four law-enforcement officers was particularly painful and highlighted the heavy sacrifices being made by security personnel in the line of duty. He called the attack a disturbing reminder of the persistent insecurity and repeated assaults on vulnerable communities and officers in the area.
Alia extended heartfelt condolences to the people of Ayilamo, the families of all the victims and the entire Logo Local Government community, assuring them that they are not alone in their grief. He also commiserated with the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, over the loss of the officers, honouring their courage and sacrifice while praying for strength for their families and colleagues.
The governor praised the Department of State Services, especially its personnel in Benue and Nasarawa States, for the prompt and professional operation that led to the arrest of three suspects allegedly linked to the attack. He described the arrests as a significant step towards uncovering the full circumstances of the incident and bringing those responsible to justice.
He urged the DSS to intensify its investigation, make full use of information obtained from the suspects in custody, and diligently pursue every available lead to identify and arrest remaining accomplices, sponsors, collaborators and others connected with the attack. All those found culpable, he said, must face the full weight of the law.
Alia assured that his administration would continue to work with security agencies to strengthen security in Ayilamo, Logo and other vulnerable communities across the state. He reiterated the government’s commitment to preventing further attacks, protecting residents, restoring peace and ensuring that affected communities receive the necessary attention and support.
He appealed to the people of Ayilamo and surrounding areas to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, and encouraged them to provide credible and timely information to security agencies while refraining from any actions that could heighten tension or undermine the ongoing investigation. The governor further assured residents of Ayilamo and the entire state that they would not be abandoned, stressing the administration’s resolve to protect lives and property, uphold justice and restore lasting peace across Benue State.
