Benue Government Condemns Clash Between Nongov and Mbakor, Warns of Decisive Clampdown

The Benue State Government has condemned, in the strongest possible terms, the wanton destruction of lives and property in the clash between the Nongov, Kaaambe community of Guma Local Government Area and the Mbakor community of Tarka Local Government Area.

The Executive Governor of Benue State and Chairman of the Benue State Executive and Security Council, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has described the violence as a dastardly and senseless act that has brought needless grief to families and set back the peace and progress the state is working to sustain.

The Governor has made it clear that his administration will no longer tolerate the indulgence of internal crises at a time when the state is fighting attacks from vicious and malicious external enemies who are determined to undermine its very soul.

At this critical moment, Benue people cannot afford to turn their hands against one another. Every life lost and every home destroyed in such conflicts serves only the interests of those who wish the state ill.

The Government will clamp down on every criminal element or group perpetrating these acts, as well as those who refuse to allow calm to return to the affected areas. Anyone found culpable will be dealt with decisively and without reservation, regardless of status, position or affiliation.

These criminal elements should consider this the final warning, as those who choose to defy the call for peace will have only themselves to blame for the consequences.
